The Best Amber Pieces of the Week, Dec. 6-9

Updated: 3 days ago

This is the Best Sales of the Week, covering December 6th through December 9th. All sales were done on our Tiktok Live feed. @amberbugs, M-Th 4pm Pst.

Item 1: Burmese Amber Enhydro Set in a .925 Silver Ring. We are starting with an item purchased by @SierraP. A Burmese amber enhydro set in a 925 silver ring. The enhydro has great movement when rocked back and forth. There's also a solid piece of something moving inside, possibly a crystal that is salient from the water trapped inside the amber. The setting is clean and well balanced.

Item 2: Rare Highland Midge With Unusual Antennae in Burmese Amber

The next item was purchased by @Justsomeone. It is a Burmese specimen with an insect showing an unusual antenna structure. It may be a highland midge, but the antenna morphology is atypical. This insect dates to the dinosaur era. Further microscope work is needed.

The antenna rises in bead-like segments. Each segment has a lateral projection extending left or right. This structure is not seen in common insects.

It resembles a mosquito relative, but the form is highly unusual and may represent an uncommon evolutionary variation.

This is a great piece for those curious to explore rare insects under. amicroscope.

Item #3 Burmese Amber with Gorgeous Mayfly. Next is @I.Am.Frogger with two pieces.

First is a mayfly in burmese amber. Mayflies are rare, beautiful and charismatic insects. We do not see mayflies regularly. They are equal in rarity to scorpions and feathers. Mayflies live only one or two days and exist solely to reproduce. They do not even eat. A short life, but well lived.

This piece is cabochon cut, making it suitable for jewelry.

Item #4: Colombian Copal with large Leaf

The second piece from @I.Am.Frogger is Colombian copal with a leaf inclusion.

The entire piece is essentially the leaf itself. You can clearly see the stem, how it wraps, forms, and reaches the edge of the leaf.

This copal is from Colombia and is under one million years old.

Item #5: Dominican Amber Dinosaur Figurine with Unusual UV Reaction

Next up is @AmberBugs, AKA me. The first piece is a Dominican amber dinosaur figurine from the Enrique Collection. The figurine itself is beautiful dinosaur.

Under UV light, it reveals a neon green glow that diffuses through all layers of the amber. This glow is extremely rare. I have only seen this color twice, and both pieces are Dominican. The cause of the glow is unknown, which makes it even more special. This piece is going into my personal collection.

Item #6: Dominican Amber Dinosaur Figurine with large Spider Inclusion. The second @AmberBugs piece is another dinosaur figurine from the Enrique Collection.

Under UV light, we discovered something completely unexpected. A museum-grade spider inclusion in the amber on the back of the figurine. A large figurine with a large spider inclusion is just like winning the lottery for me. I'm not selling this piece. This piece is also going into the personal collection.

Item #7: Burmese Amber Pseudoscorpion set in .925 Silver Ring.

Purchased by @Gutherinsgems, This piece features one of the most beautiful pseudoscorpions we have ever seen, set in a .925 sterling silver ring. The species has long, thin arms that appear raised toward the heavens.

Pseudoscorpions use these arms to hitch rides on other animals. This behavior is often how they end up trapped in amber. Pseudoscorpions in amber are very rare and sought after by collectors.

Item #8: Burmese Amber Insect Inclusion with Strange Antennae.

Next up, @EarthsRarestTreasures purchased another insect with strange antennae.

This specimen looks like a mosquito, but with antennae far longer than anything seen today. It may represent an extinct ancestor of modern mosquitoes.

This is the first time we have ever seen a mosquito-like insect with antennae this long, making it quite rare.

.

Item #9: Dominican Amber with lots of Seed Inclusions.

Next is @RachelHawes with Dominican amber containing seeds, dating back 20 million years.

The piece contains a large number of identical seeds, each with small pointed tips. We do not yet know which plant they came from, but further research is required. This is the first time we have ever seen this species of seed, and they appear in an absolute swarm. Interestingly, this inclusion was not even discovered until after the piece had sold.

Item #10: Clear Centipede in Dominican Amber Cabochon.

Next is @ChaosSupervisor (And Miguel) who purchased a Dominican amber centipede.

This is a rare and beautiful centipede, cut flat on the back, making it perfect for jewelry. Under the microscope, the detail is stunning.

Item #11: Dominican Amber Dinosaur Figurines

And last but not least is EST.mar.

They acquired a Dominican amber dinosaur figurine showing a dinosaur hatching from an egg. It is another beautiful piece from the Enrique Collection.
