Many animals use camoflauge. They show us a very secretive behavior, and are rare to find. This collection highlights the best examples of camoflauge in amber that we have found.


2) Antlion covered in detritus that it uses to hide it's body.

Origin: Hukawng Valley, Kachin State, Myanmar

Age: ~98–100 million years 

Geologic Period: Mid-Cretaceous


This antlion's body is evenly covered with dirt, which is how they hunt.



1) Antlion in detritus. Most of the antlions body is hidden in detritus.

Provenance: Burmese Amber (Myanmar)

Origin: Hukawng Valley, Kachin State, Myanmar

Age: ~98–100 million years 

Geologic Period: Mid-Cretaceous

This antlions body is mostly hidden in dirt, with only it's head sticking out. Clear jaws are visible.
