Parasitism in amber is one of our favorite animal interactions. It is uncommon in amber, but reveals a lot of information about both species when found. This collection highlights the best parasitism in amber that we have found.
2) Beetle with parasitic mite biting the abdomen.
Provenance: Burmese Amber (Myanmar)
Origin: Hukawng Valley, Kachin State, Myanmar
Age: ~98–100 million years
Geologic Period: Mid-Cretaceous
Look closely at the small mite attached the the underside of the beetles abdomen.
